EXCLUSIVE: In-fighting, uneasy calm in Aso Villa over PMB’s health
  • Intense power play ongoing as forces realign

Indications have emerged that the various political forces at the Aso rock presidential villa, the seat of Nigeria’s power are now engulfed in a stiff but silent power struggle to control the remaining two years of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration, AljazirahNigeria learnt through a source in the Presidency.

An impeccable source in the villa that did not want to be mentioned emphatically told AljazirahNigeria that a section of the cabal is bent on ensuring that power is retained to the north by all means while those who belong to the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo faction are making every frantic efforts to ensure that they are not side-lined but allowed to act freely.

AljazirahNigeria could not however independently verify the source’s claims.

It could be recalled that the ailing president Buhari announced his indefinite medical vacation to London early May and transmitted a somewhat curious letter to the National Assembly informing them of his decision to allow his vice, to coordinate the activities of the government.

Since he departed for the vacation, nothing has been heard or said about him in a proportion to settle the dusts that have been raised by some unscrupulous politicians.

The military were also at a point rumoured to have been involved in surreptitious moves in collaboration with some political elements across the length and breadth of the country to change the prevailing status quo.

This prompted the Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai to warn officers and men against getting themselves ‘contaminated with political activities pointing out that such behaviour will be appropriately sanctioned.’

The source also told our correspondent on Monday, 22 May, that save for any last-minute change of plan, the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari will be visiting her ailing husband in London today May, the 23rd.

She is believed to be embarking on the visit to know the exact state of her husband’s health having earlier complained that some undesirable elements in the system have hidden her husband from her.

Reactions from the Presidency could not be gotten as at press time but public comments from the two Presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu in recent weeks have indicated that there is no vacuum or controversy raging in the seat of power as far as they are concerned.
