Ex-Federal High Court Chief Judge, Abutu Dies At 78

Former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, FHC, Daniel Abutu, has passed away at the age of 78.

The Federal High Court confirmed his demise in a statement issued yesterday by its Chief Registrar, Sulaiman Hassan.

According to Hassan, Abutu died on Tuesday after a brief illness.

“The Federal High Court announces with deep sorrow, the passing of our former Chief Judge, Daniel Abutu,” Hassan said.

The court described him as a distinguished jurist who served the court and the nation with dedication and excellence.

“He was known for his unwavering commitment to justice and administrative excellence,” Hassan noted.

The court has extended its heartfelt condolences to Abutu’s family, colleagues, friends and all those who were touched by his life and service. “May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen,” the statement read.

As a mark of respect, the court has directed all its divisions to display Abutu’s portrait in a dignified and visible area within its premises. Condolence registers have also been opened at all court divisions to allow judges, staff, members of the bar and the general public to pay their tributes.
