The University of Abuja (Uni Abuja) has commenced the building of students’ hostel in the main campus of the university, with estimated cost N16billion.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah, noted that the project would be executed through Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
He disclosed that the university needs the project, regreted that the institution, at the moment, can hardly give hostel accommodation to it’s teaming student population.
N’a Alah, stated that the new students’ hostel, when completed will accommodate about 9,600 students, which according to him , would be ready before the beginning of next academic session.
The Vice Chancellor called on investors to take advantage of the needs of the university and invest in hostel project and other projects in the school, to tackle the accommodation challenge facing the institution..
Also Speaking, the project developer and chairman/managing director, Philkruz West Africa Limited, Nze Philip Uzouku, assured that the hostel project would be completed before the next academic session.
He noted that the state-of-the-art hostel project, when completed, would meet the needs and expectations of the students in particular and the university community in general.
Uzouku ,further disclosed that under the PPP arrangement with the university, his company would build, operate and manage the students’ hostel for a period of about 30 years, before handing it over to the university.
