Entertainment Industry Bubbling As Two Grammys Land Nigeria

It was celebration galore for citizens of Nigeria when two of her artists, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy and Ayodeji Balogun a.ka Wizkid made them proud and bagged an award at the 63rd Grammys Awards that took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, United States of America.

This is the first time a Nigerian would win a Grammy for his outright work, making it a big win for the country.

Burna boy broke the record by becoming the first Nigerian artist to win a Grammy in that category, with his “Twice as Tall” Album, for Best Global Album. Wizkid on the other hand clinched an award for Beyoncé’s Brown skill girl whom he featured in won the category for Best Music Video.

The award recognizes the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year running year from September 1, 2019, to August 31,2021.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed congratulated the music stars for their hard work in a statement issued on Monday in Lagos.

 According to him, the award represents a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigerians increasing dominance of the music world.

Alhaji Mohammed further expressed hope that the clinching of the prestigious award by the two music stars would not only spur them to greater heights, but would also serve as a source of inspiration to others.

Also, the Nigerian music industry has over the years had its artist nominated for the Grammys in the past, this includes King Sunny Ade, Babajide Olatunji, Femi Kuti,Seun Kuti,Sikiru Adepoju and others.   One of Nigeria’s best female artiste Tiwa Savage who was also nominated for best record packing and album of the year at the Grammy awards 2021 for her feature in Coldplay’s 2019 album, ‘Everyday life’ but eventually didn’t win the category.

While reacting to the award, the elated Nigerians expressed happiness over the giant strides of the artiste, fans and top celebrities were so excited, a good number reacted to the news happily including one of Nigeria’s biggest stars Davido, who congratulated   them and said it was a win for Nigeria.
