Emmanuel Orders Man’s Arrest Over Hate Speech

Iniobong Sunday, Uyo

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has ordered security agencies to fish out a social media agent for tweeting uncomplimentary remarks against him.

The tweet, our correspondent gathered, allegedly accused the governor on some social media platforms as having branded a fellow aspirant in the race as “a talkative.”

Emmanuel had upon his arrival from the just concluded presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, solicited for genuine reconciliation and enjoined fellow aspirants and party stakeholders to rally behind the eventual winner, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the general elections.

But soon after, several social media platforms were awash with a vile tweet by a yet-to-be-identified suspect, quoting the governor as branding one of the aspirants as being reckless in his remarks, an allegation that the governor quickly denied, saying “I never described any of my co-presidential aspirants in the just concluded national party primaries as “a talkative.”

He, therefore, ordered security agencies to clamp down on those who perpetuated the mischief and falsehood.

Fielding questions from Government House correspondents at the airport on Thursday, the governor said: “It is all lies and I stand here to reaffirm that I didn’t make such a statement.

“It is not in my character to make such a statement and I want to believe that law enforcement agencies will look into this because if this is not put to check malicious people will cause a whole lot of confusion”.

Governor Emmanuel said such acts of falsehood should not be tolerated and insisted that politics should not degenerate into character assassination for selfish desires.

“Let me thank those who didn’t believe such report; you look at the character of people and you can deduce what they can say and what they can’t say.

“Somebody would just go and tweet such falsehood and it confirms what the Bible says that the heart of man is desperately wicked. There are people that are like that and if you want to see such mischief, come into politics”, he stressed.
