Ekiti Update: Scarcity Of Hotel Accommodation Hits Ekiti

…aS PDP, APC flout factors before Ekiti voters

BY JONATHAN IPAA

The clock is fast clicking as rival political parties plot their last available strategies to undo each other for votes ahead of next Saturday’s governorship election.

Hotel accommodations in Ado Ekiti and neighboring Akure, Benin City and Lokoja are becoming hot cake as visiting leaders of both parties struggle to book in advance.

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to join the already APC chiefs in the state for the roundup campaign for his immediate past Minister of Solid Mineral, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Though the real contest is between ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the outgoing Deputy Governor, Prof. Olusola Kolapo Eleka of the People Democratic Party, PDP, the real fighters are the outgoing Governor Ayodele Fasoye and the National Leader of the APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tinubu sees the Ekiti as a test run for the next year’s general election which probably might be his last major political outdoing. Fayose’s Ekiti has been his major headache.

For Fayemi, losing this July poll is a retirement from the politics, having been beaten four years ago by Fayose.

Governor Fayose needs the victory to lay any solid claims for the PDP vice Presidential slot to confront Vice President Yemi, Buhari’s preferred running mate for the 2019 race.

Tinubu, an ex-governor of Lagos state has since been on the ground to water down the tempo of campaigns ahead of the Tuesday’s presidential visit of Buhari.

Governor Fayose who is expected to accord Buhari a red carpet reception had ruled such when he told his party men that the president didn’t construct a single kilometer in Ekiti state to have deserved such reception.

While Tinubu and his team are courting state workers and pensioners to undo the PDP, Fayose, also known by admirers as “Peter The Rock” moved from town to the remote villages, trekking, distributing local delicacies of Kpomo and Amala to the needles.

His candidate, Prof Eleka, moves in another direction with the “herdsmen message against Fayemi who the PDP claims, will mortgage Ekiti people with cattle colonies.

The Fayemi campaign team had refuted the claim that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, plans to create cattle colonies across the state if he wins the July 14 poll.

It accused Fayose of running a campaign of blackmail and lies instead of programmes to sell his candidate to voters.

A statement by the Director, Media, and Publicity of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Wole Olujobi, accused Fayose of mischievously exploiting herdsmen’s crisis across the nation to paint Fayemi as a backer of herdsmen in their deadly attacks that had claimed hundreds of lives.

“Fayose has been deceiving Ekiti people and indeed all Nigerians that Fayemi is a promoter of herdsmen’s activities and that he is ready to create cattle colonies as one of his principal programmes so that herdsmen can unleash terror on Ekiti people.

“By this misrepresentation, Ekiti people will be unwilling to vote for Fayemi whereas Fayose himself in his Executive Bill he signed into the law last year had approved the creation of cattle colonies across the state to solve herdsmen’s crisis.

“After Fayose signed the law establishing cattle colonies across the state, immediately he discovered that herdsmen crisis is a good point to nail Fayemi, he quickly lapsed into manipulating the alleged plan to create cattle colonies by the APC candidate to paint him black.”

Fayemi accused Fayose of running Ekiti State like a foreman at a construction site.
