Ekiti: Man In Court Over  Conversion Of Funds

One  Suleiman Mustapha was on Wednesday arraigned by the police before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court over alleged conversion of funds.

Mustapha, 25, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of  conversion of funds and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Inspector Moyosola Adesola told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 27 at 4.30pm in Ado-Ekiti.

Adesola alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to  cause breach of peace by converting N316,000 to his personal use.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant approached the complainant,  Mr Akinyemi Yemi, to supply some goods to him, which he did, but the defendant did not refund the money.

She said the offences contravened Sections 302 and 181(1) (d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Joy Raphael prayed the court to grant Mustapha bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until July 4 for hearing.
