Chief Medical Director, CMD, Edo Specialist Hospital, ESH, Dr Anthonia  Njoku, on Friday, said that the increasing number of patients underscores the need for expansion  to accommodate more patients seeking quality care.

Njoku made the  disclosure  during a courtesy visit to  Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State Council.

The CMD, who said the facility boasts of  state-of-the-art facilities and services, said the only challenge facing it is bed space for more patients seeking its services.

Njoku added that Governor Monday Okpebholo had been supportive  in the development of the hospital and has consistently committed resources to enable it thrive in providing quality care to the people.

“We have space constraints. I think one of the things in life is growth. One of the key things is that this hospital is in the city centre and that makes everybody have access to it.

“It goes to say that a lot more people are requiring  specialist services and that is why we have  constraint.

“We have a lot of people being admitted. As a result, we will need  a lot of expansion.

“We look forward to a day where we are able to do cardiothoracic surgeries and neurosurgeries because we have the potentials to  do that,” Njoku added.

On his part, Edo State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe urged the management team of the  hospital to be committed to delivering quality and affordable health care services to the people.
