Edo State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi has ordered a detailed investigation into the death of the former State Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin.

AljazirahNigeria had reported that Eboigbodin had an encounter with some officers and men of the command who allegedly flagged him down to check his vehicle particulars and thereafter threatened to take him to the station.

It was said that when the argument was ongoing, the former labour leader slumped and died.

This development had led to the issuance of a 48-hour ultimatum by civil rights groups to the police to fish out their men involved in the roadblock at Upper Sokponba that led to Eboigbodin’s death.

In a bid to unearth the mysteries surrounding his death, CP Ozigi in a statement through the Police Public Relations Officer called for a thorough and immediate investigation.

“Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has received with great concern, news of the death of Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin, former Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in Edo State, allegedly due to police ‘unprofessional conduct.’

“The commissioner of police wishes to use this medium to commiserate with the widow, family, friends and associates of the deceased over the loss and prays for the repose of his soul.

“He noted the cordial working relationship existing between the police, civil society organisations, NLC and critical stakeholders in the state and therefore directed an immediate investigation into the incident.

“The command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice prevails in every situation,” the statement reads in part.
