ECOWAS, EU Train 50 Ex-Akwa Ibom Militants On Vocational Skills

No fewer than 50 former militants drawn from Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun Local Government  Areas trained under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the European Union (EU) have been empowered with start-up tools to undertake trades in various fields.

This followed the completion of their skill acquisition programme under the amnesty programme of the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration which ensured the former agitators down their arms and emerged from the bush for peace to embrace peace.

It was at a ceremony tagged; ‘Strengthening Peace, Security and Stability in West Africa’ which took place at the weekend at Ibom Hall grounds, Uyo, the state capital.

Governor Emmanuel, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Ekeuwem, commended the ECOWAS and the EU for partnering the state government to bring peace to the troubled parts of the state torn by strife in the last couple of years.

“We want to commend the ECOWAS\EU for partnering the state government and assisting the repentant youths to leave criminalities by giving the needed skills that will make them to be useful to themselves and the society”, he said.
