Member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Dr Nkemkanma Kama, said he has offset the school fees of constituents in primary, secondary schools and universities worth N82 million.

He also paid the hospital bills of his constituents in various health facilities totalling N59million.

Kama made the disclosure yesterday in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area during a town hall meeting on his achievements since being inaugurated at the House of Representatives in June 2023.

He said the gesture was made through his school fees support scheme,

According to him, N200,000 each was given to 44 law school indigents as bursary in the 2023/24 academic session.

“We gave N500,000 each to indigent law school graduates with first class honours, in our excellent academic performance award among others.

“We organised holiday tutorials for students in secondary schools to actively engage them academically, while donating several educational materials to schools in the area,” he said.

The lawmaker said he sponsored free medical outreaches with that of December 2023, covering the 11 communities in the constituency.

“444 health workers were engaged for the project with over 16,000 constituents benefiting.

“We are renovating primary health centres in the constituency, having successfully secured funds for the reconstruction of three of such facilities in the 2024 budget.

“Work has commenced at the heath centre in Ukawu community, while others would commence soon,” he said.

Kama noted that he has attracted several roads, mini bridges, culverts, rural electrification, school rehabilitation, agricultural services among other projects within the period under review.

“Lawmaking is the primary duty of a legislators, but we realised that there are other areas requiring our intervention to improve the lives of our people.

“I thank Governor Francis Nwifuru for his all-inclusive approach to leadership and stakeholders of the constituency for their avid support to me,” he said.

He noted that he had sponsored six bills, moved 11 motions and raised two important orders on the floor of the House.

Former member representing the constituency in the House, Chief Darlington Okereke,  commended Kama for his pragmatic policies aimed at positively impacting on the constituency.

“He has shown transparency in representation and such should be emulated by other leaders,” he said.
