Ebonyi State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports and Chairman on modern school projects monitoring, Richard Ugo-Idike has directed the contractors handling the 39-modern school projects across the three senatorial zones to meet the April 30 deadline or be ready to face the consequences.

This is even as the committee ordered NC2 Project Limited, one of the contractors handling Izhia Girls Secondary School in Ohaukwu Local Government Area , to suspend work at the site over inadequate job delivery.

Idike noted that the executive led by Governor, Francis Nwifuru formed the committee to enable them assist government in ensuring that contractors handling the 39 modern school projects deliver quality jobs within the agreed time frame.

He added that the modern schools have 22-classroom blocks aimed at ensuring quality, effective and conducive education.

“Today, the committee visited six different schools within Ebonyi North zone. It toured projects within Ebonyi North and frowned at the level of work at all the sites considering the time that the state government has mapped out for the commissioning of the projects. “

They expressed total disappoinment with the quality of work at Izhia Girls Secondary School in Ohaukwu Local Government Area by NC2 Project Ltd and ordered immediate stoppage of work.

On his part, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Mathew Nwobashi said they had stopped work at the same site due to low quality of work and the contractor promised to improve, but it is unfortunate that he refused to do so.

The committee is expected to visit the 39 modern school structures sited across the 13 local government areas.

However, the committee has Richard Ugo-Idike as Chairman, Professor Nwogo as Secretary, Sunday Inyima, Professor Paul Nwobashi, Sunday Ogbonnia, Cletus Ike as members including a quantity surveyor, Achi Kenneth and a builder, Ugbo Obasi Okoro.
