Ebonyi State government has commenced the demarcation of boundary between Abomege and Ishinkwo communities in Onicha Local Government Area.
A viral video circulated by the Public Relations Officer of the local government, Omenkannaya Orogwu, showed earth-moving machines under the supervision of the local government chairman, Ikechukwu Ogbuoffia, accompanied by security agents executing the demarcation.
In the video, Orogwu, who traced the hostilities between the people of Abomege and Ishinkwo to 1912, said over 1,000 lives were lost to the war.
According to Orogwu, “This is the commencement of the boundary demarcation between Abomege and Ishinkwo communities. We are here to witness this historic moment in the life of these communities.
“It would be recalled that the hostilities between the two communities started as far as 1912. But today, to the glory of God, the governor of Ebonyi State, in collaboration with the chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, has taken a bold step to bring a permanent end to these hostilities that have ravaged the two communities.
“It is no exaggeration today that this war which began in 1912 has claimed over 100 lives. We give God all the glory for giving us Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“Successive administrations could not take the bold step that the governor is taking today in collaboration with the chairman of Onicha Local Government Area.
“Our own is to continue to pray for the two of them to succeed in their efforts to bring to an end, these hostilities and restore peace and tranquility in troubled areas in the state. We are happy that it is happening in our own time and before our very eyes.
“The people of the two communities should rest assured that government is with them. Governor Nwifuru is sharing in their pain and that is why the bold step is being taken today.
“Let it be on record that it was during the tenure of Governor Nwifuru that this is happening. Let it also be known that it is through the collaborative efforts of our dear chairman of Onicha Local Government Area that this is being achieved.”
