Ebonyi State Fire Service has appealed for increase in manpower and welfare of staff.
The Officer-in-charge of Operation, Frank Ottah made the call while interacting with our correspondent in Abakaliki yesterday.
Ottah noted that the season was a critical period of fire outbreak occasioned by dry environment, adding that imbibing preventive measures had helped in reducing incidents of fire outbreak in the state.
“Our outreach so far in homes and establishments including government offices helped to reduce fire outbreaks in Ebonyi State in the last year.
“We have repeatedly advised against cooking in the confines of ones room and gas burns rapidly. Cooking gas, you need not to keep it inside the kitchen, rather outside, while the burner should be inside.
“While you are cooking, do not go away from there, you should be conscious of the control valve and to add, a lot of users will go to the gas station and ask that it be fully filled which is wrong, there should be space in the cylinder because if there is no space, there will be leakage and a little light, it will ignite fire,” he stated.
The operation officer, who debunked the allegation of constant complaints of scarcity of water in the command, called on Ebonyians to always reach their official number, stating that they are ready to intervene in putting off fire in all parts of the state once they are called and on time.
He urged the people to endeavour to keep their environments clean while adhering to precautionary measures, especially in this dry season.
