Aleke in her research which has encouraged Men to seek help
sheds light on the decision-making processes of male victims.
In her study, titled “Domestic Violence Against Men: Their Report Decision-Making Process,” Aleke explained why men chooses not to report instances of domestic violence.
The thesis which identified societal stigma, fear of not being believed, and internalized shame as factors that deter men not to report cases of domestic violence also revealed a significant gap in resources and support systems to male victims, which according to her contributed to their silence.
According to Aleke: “Understanding the decision-making process of male victims is crucial. It’s not just about providing help, but about creating an environment where men feel safe and supported in coming forward
Men who have been previously hesitant to report their experiences are now finding the courage to speak out”
A male victim who wants to remain anonymous stated that “Reading Aleke’s research made me realize I’m not alone. It gave me the strength to reach out for help and start healing.”
Aleke’s research has raises the hope for men who have been struggling in silence, even as the government battle the challenges faced by male victims of domestic violence.
