In order to avert building collapse, Concerned Group of Parents for Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo in Osun State, on Friday, appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke through the Commissioner for Education, Sunday Eluwole, to urgently save Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo from total collapse.
The school which was established in 2017 according to a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Osogbo by the Chairman and Secretary of the group, Chief Michael Aina and Otunba Yinusa Bamigbola respectively, needs renovation and reconstruction.
The statement said there is the need for government and other stakeholders in the education sector to save Ataoja School of Science from total neglect in the interest of young students.
It explained that old students have been putting their resources together to renovate some blocks of classrooms.
The group lamented the unpleasant experience of students, especially during the rainy season, noting that quality infrastructure remains one of the measures of standard of education in any society.
“About 60 percent of classroom buildings in the school are in a deplorable situation, unfit for human occupation.
“We appreciate what the incumbent administration is doing towards the betterment and upliftment of the education sector in Osun today, but they should extend the hand of fellowship to Ataoja School of Science which is calling for urgent attention, as the building may collapse anytime from now.
“The present condition of the school has become worrisome, students sit in dusty classrooms, while roofs and doors are collapsing.
“These issues not only affect students ability to learn, but also pose safety risks.
“We implore you to prioritise the education of our children by taking decisive action to address the dire situation of this school”, the parents said.
