The Nigerian Defence Headquarters, DHQ has announced major achievements in its operational activities across the country .
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, while highlighting the high operational tempo of Nigerian troops from January to March 2025, in a press briefing in Abuja, explained that the operations are in collaboration with hybrid forces and other security agencies.
He highlighted the success of the air component, which carried out reconnaissance, close air support, and interdiction missions, achieving significant results and substantially weakening the terrorist threat.
“​Also, troopsresponded to information about terrorists’ activities in Isa and Malumfashi LGAs of Sokoto and Katsina States respectively on 31 March 2025. During the encounters, some terrorists were neutralized, while arms and assorted kinds of 7.62mm ammunition and motorcycles as well as rustled cows were recovered from them.
“Similarly, troops, acting on credible intelligence about terrorists’ activities in Tsafe LGA of Katsina State on 31 March 2025, stormed the area and arrested 3 of them. They also recovered a motorcycle abandoned by the terrorists.
Major General Kangye further revealed that numerous terrorist commanders had been neutralized or captured, effectively disrupting the leadership structure of terrorist groups.
The Director also outlined the contributions of various task forces, beginning with Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, which achieved major successes in March 2025.
He reported that in the North West region, troops neutralized several terrorists, recovered weapons, and apprehended suspects in Sokoto and Katsina states, adding that in the North Central region, troops carried out offensive operations, arresting criminals and rescuing hostages.
​“Troops of Op WHIRL PUNCH achieved the following during the week. From 27 – 31 March 2025, troops, acting on a tip-off arrested 5 suspected criminals and a gunrunner identified as Shuaibu Maji in DekinaLGA of Kogi State and Ovia East and Kaiama LGAs of Edo and Kwara States respectively. Troops recovered barretta pistol, some quantity of ammunition and the sum of N63,050.00 only.
“​During the week,troops conducted fighting patrol in Lokoja during which a suspected kidnappers’ accomplice, identified as Musa Umar was arrested on 31 March 2025. Recovered from him were large quantities of food stuff and beverages believed to be meant for the terrorists.
