Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme has pledged the state’s unwavering support for the Global Fund Malaria Programme under the Society for Family Health, aimed at combating the spread of malaria.
Dr Onojaeme made the pledge during a meeting with the Project Director, Society for Family Health Global Fund Malaria Programme, Mr John Ocholi, and other team members in his office on Thursday, in Asaba.
He emphasized the state government’s commitment to improve the lives of Deltans and assured the team that the necessary measures would be put in place to ensure the success of the campaign and that all households benefit from the programme.
The programme, aimed at controlling the spread of malaria, will embark on a Mosquito Net Replacement Campaign scheduled to take place from Thursday, May 8 to Thursday, May 15.
According to the Project Director, Mr John Ocholi, key highlights of the campaign will see the distribution of 3.1 million nets across the state, marking the fourth mass campaign since its inception.
Ocholi, while briefing the commissioner, disclosed that the campaign would be conducted in two phases; house-to-house distribution that would last for seven days where households will receive tokens and a redemption phase where they could exchange tokens for mosquito nets at designated redemption points in each ward.
Speaking further, he said 1,500 redemption points would be set up across the state for easy access, saying the redemption phase would take place from Monday, May 26 to Friday, May 30.
The Delta State government and the Society for Family Health are working together to combat malaria and improve public health and this partnership underscores the commitment to protect the lives of Deltans and promote a healthier community.
