Delta State government has commended Poultry Association of Nigeria for the provision of 600 crates of fresh eggs to 51 orphanage homes.
The governor described the gesture as a clear confirmation of the institutionalisation of the ‘MORE’ agenda of the present administration.
Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza gave the commendation in a keynote address yesterday at the official presentation of the fresh eggs to the orphanage homes, in appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for supporting the association with maize palliatives in order to cushion the effect of high cost of poultry feed.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Theresa Oliko, described the gesture as a welcome development, noting that governance should be a collaborative effort by government and citizens.
Osuoza encouraged other associations to emulate the Poultry Association and key into the vision of the ‘MORE’ agenda by supporting vulnerable individuals, families and communities across the state.
In his welcome address, State Chairman of the association, Chief Eric Tomfawei stated that the gesture was motivated by the 448 tonnes and 60 tonnes of palliative maize it received from the state government earlier in the year.
Tomfawei stated that with the right support for poultry farmers in the state, eggs could be given free of charge to poor and vulnerable persons, especially children.
He appealed to the state government for an upward review of the quantity of maize allocated to the association during the second phase of the palliative distribution exercise.
