Delta State government has again demonstrated its commitment to youth empowerment and digital inclusion with the successful completion and passing out of the 2024/2025 edition of MORE Information and Communication Technology Youth Empowerment Programme, MORE ICT-YEP.
The event, which featured the award of certificates and distribution of starter packs, took place on Wednesday in Asaba.
Organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the programme empowered 300 youths with practical skills in various ICT-related fields, including web development, graphic design, mobile development, cybersecurity, computer repair, video editing, motion graphics and advanced solar installation.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr Daniel Odigie described the programme as a bold step to equip youths with critical digital skills for a fast-paced and technology-driven world.
“ICT-YEP is not merely a training programme; it is a platform for transformation.
“This initiative reflects our vision for a digitally inclusive Delta State, a state where every young person is not just a user of technology, but is empowered to become a builder, creator and solution provider,” the commissioner said.
He lauded the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for supporting innovative programmes that prepare young people for the future.
The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr Kingsley Emu, congratulated the graduating participants and described the programme as an intensive initiative with a lasting impact.
He urged the beneficiaries to use their newly acquired skills to uplift the society and contribute to the development of the state. “This programme is designed to unleash the great minds of our young populace, driving direction in the right areas. Use your skills to dream, build and lead,” he said.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori and the Ministry of Science and Technology for the life-changing opportunity.
