Customs Seize Ammunition, Cannabis In Ogun

Operatives of Ogun 1 Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, have intercepted 940 rounds of live ammunition, 71 sacks containing illicit goods and 3,253 parcels of cannabis sativa.

The Comptroller, Mohammed Shuaibu disclosed this at a press conference held in Yewa South Local Government Area. 

Shuaibu said the interception followed the ongoing intelligence-driven operations aimed at fighting the smuggling of goods and contraband items at Idiroko land border.

The seizures were part of a haul including 16,712 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 139,881 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, amounting to a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N1,267,504,035.

Public Relations Officer of the command, Hammed Oloyede, in a statement, said the seizures occured between 2024 and early 2025, highlighting the command’s vigilant efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders and economy.

Oloyede said among the additional seizures were 2,002 bags of smuggled rice, 6,180 pieces of cutlasses and 6,375 litres of PMS, with a total DPV of N77,476,185.

The Chief Superintendent of Customs said with a total revenue generation of N275,835,406, the command’s performance in 2024 was exceptional.

He said baggage assessments, auction sales of PMS and confiscated vehicles were the various sources from which the revenue was derived

The spokesman said the landmark achievement was due to the diligence and professionalism exhibited by the officers in the discharge of their duties and the cooperation of compliant traders who adhered to the rules and regulations of NCS.

He said the comptroller lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi and the entire management for their unwavering support.

Oloyede said Shuaibu also praised the operatives of Ogun I Area Command for their professionalism and dedication in performing their duties in the face of enormous challenges.
