Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Tuesday donated relief materials to victims of  herdsmen attacks in Benue State.

Speaking during the presentation held  in Makurdi, the CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh expressed dismay over the incessant attacks on the people.

The CAN president, represented by the Vice President, Stephen  Panya, while commiserating with Governor Hyacinth Alia, the government and people of the state over the attacks, expressed appreciation with the efforts of the Benue government in ensuring that complete peace is restored and  displaced victims return to their various destinations.

Archbishop Okoh called on the federal government to take deliberate measures to stop the killings and constant attacks in Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara and parts of Sokoto.

He also insisted that the ethnic cleansing of Christian indigenous communities must be stopped, expressing optimism that God would one day intervene for his people.

The relief materials donated  include bags of rice, beans, cartons of seasonings and salt.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Local Government Liaison Officer of Otukpo, Agbo Oloko expressed gratitude for the gesture, acknowledging that the items would go a long way in alleviating their suffering.

He, however, appealed to  the state and federal governments to find a lasting solution, so that displaced persons can go back to their ancestral homes and continue with their normal businesses.

In separate remarks, Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, David Ajav, and the State Vice Chairman of CAN, Reverend Jonathan Ugbede,  expressed gratitude for the relief materials, describing the gesture as a demonstration of love, care and hope for the victims.
