Despite the expansion of the tournament to 16 teams, the Confederation of African Football ,CAF, has reaffirmed that Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have not yet secured a spot for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations ,AFCON.

This clarification follows recent speculation about the team’s qualification prospects, especially after they failed to earn a spot during the WAFU B qualifiers in Ghana last year.

On Monday, CAF shared details about the 25th edition of the tournament, which will feature 16 teams, but reiterated that Nigeria has not yet qualified.

“Mali and Nigeria have each appeared in 10 finals tournaments since 1995, the most by any nation. This includes the 2025 edition in Morocco, where Mali has qualified but Nigeria has not”, CAF stated on their official website.

With only 10 teams confirmed for the tournament so far, it remains to be seen if Nigeria will have another opportunity to secure a place before the draw later this month
