Buni Opens  Programme For  Climate Change Council On Erosion

Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has declared open, a five-day capacity building programme for  Yobe State Council on Climate Change, Erosion and Restoration Technical Working Committee in Abuja.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Baba Malam Wali, who also chairs the committee, the training was organised in collaboration with Milestone Centre.

The governor said Yobe State had made significant strides in governance, infrastructure, and social development. Recognising climate change as a pressing challenge, he disclosed that the state government established YOCCCER in demonstration of its dedication to environmental sustainability.

The technical working team’s capacity building programme aims to equip members with the necessary skills to execute their mandate effectively and bridge institutional knowledge gaps.

According to him, this proactive approach showcases Yobe’s readiness for climate action and its acknowledgment of capacity building’s crucial role in achieving its climate change mitigation plan.

AljazirahNigeria gathered that, the opening ceremony was attended by notable partners and heads of United Nations programmes, including the director-general of NESREA, SSA to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement, Australia’s 2nd secretary of the high commission, and representatives from the Middle East charity foundation, among others. 

They commended Yobe State’s bold step, assuring  of their collaboration and support throughout this journey.
