The 14th Governing Council of the University has approved the appointment of Jamil Ahmad Salim as substantive Registrar and Secretary to the Council.

The letter signed by the Chairman of the 14th governing council, Udoma Udo Udoma conveying the approval, said appointment is for a period of five years with effect from Wednesday, 27th October, 2021.


“I write on the instruction of the University Council to inform you that the Council has approved your appointment as Registrar/Secretary to Council of Bayero University, Kano for five years with effect from Wednesday, 27th October, 2021,” the letter reads in part.

The letter further said the appointment of the Registrars followed his performance at the interview conducted.

Udoma, while congratulating the Registrar equally prayed for a successful tenure in office.

It will be recalled that the tenure of the former Registrar, Fatima Binta Mohammed, who proceeded on a 10 month course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) at Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, ended on 28th February, 2021.

Salim was earlier appointed acting Registrar for six months on 15th March, 2021 and later was extended to October 2021.

Meanwhile, the new Registrar, Jamil Salim was born on 21st November, 1963 in Gwale Quarters in Kano Metropolis. He graduated in1988 where be obtained a degree in Hausa/ Islamic Studies Combined Honours. He holds Post-graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Administration as well as Masters in Business and Commercial Law all from Bayero University, Kano.

Salim joined the services of Bayero University in 1990 where he worked for nine years and left for National Examinations Council (NECO) in 1999 and served for only one year and returned to the University in 2000.

While in the University, he worked in various units and directorates. He was a one-time University Examination Officer, Deputy Registrar, Directorate of Establishment Matters, Acting Director Establishment Matters, Director Establishment Matters, Director General Administration and Acting Registrar from March to October 2021.
