…urge prudent, transparent utilisation of funds

House of Representatives Committee on South East Development Commission, SEDC, has approved N250 billion for the resuscitation and restoration of basic socio-economic infrastructure in the zone.
Chairman of the committee, Chris Nkwonta, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the budget defence by the management staff of SEDC at the National Assembly yesterday, expressed hope that the approved sum would be transparently and judiciously put to good use, stressing the importance of peace and development.
Nkwonta commended President Bola Tinubu for his accelerated assent to the SEDC bill, noting that with law and adequate funding in place, the most neglected part of the country would now begin to witness explosive government presence with basic infrastructural growth and development.
He pointed out that the region had gone through several infrastructural decay due to long period of neglect by previous administrations, while expressing optimism on project execution, as all forms of agitations and unrest in the region would automatically come to a halt.
The lawmaker also disclosed some major areas through which the budget would be channelled in order to close the developmental gap hindering progress in the business oriented region.
“This budget essentially is going to target those areas where there are deficit in terms of infrastructure, erosion and other areas of human capital development,” he said.
