Borno Govt Discovers Names Of Babies On Local Council’s Payroll

The Borno state government official have discovered names of babies on the payroll during a verification exercise in Shani local government area of the state.

A number of people have been collecting salaries on the payroll of the Borno state government without offering any service.

Zulum who made this known at the Menwara Cultural Festival in Shani Town, said N19 million was paid to fake employees monthly.

Zulum directed the Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugum Mai Mele to verify the exercise

“Let me inform you that in the end of the verification exercise, names of babies were found in the payrolls while N19 million was paid to fake employees in Shani Local Government Area monthly. It was discovered that one family alone has 300 fake employees and if this trend continues, I am afraid, Shani LGA may not be able to pay the monthly salaries of its employees, in the future.”

While nothing that the verification exercise is meant to sanitize the civil service,

He ordered the commissioner of local government and emirate affairs, Sugum Mai Mele, to verify the exercise.

AljazirahNigeria reports that the monthly salaries and allowances paid to fake employees including the babies were reportedly being siphoned by corrupt officials.
