Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon (Dr) Ali Bukar Dalori has made a significant philanthropic gesture by donating 50,000,000 (Fifty million Naira) to support victims of recent flooding which destroyed houses ,business places, warships centers and displaced a huge number of people in Maiduguri and its environs.
The donation is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the victims of the devastating floods and to facilitates recovery efforts and also to compliment the efforts of the Executive Governor His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum
The APC leader made the donation in Maiduguri at the weekend after visiting some of the affected flood victims in Internally Displaced Centres ,IDPs, in Maiduguri metropolis.
According to a statement issued by Dalori’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Yemi Akinbode said the APC Deputy National Chairman,(North) Hon.( Dr) Ali Dalori over the weekend made a cash donation of filthy million naira to the victims of the recent Maiduguri flood disaster which led to the displacement over of two thousand victims of the Maiduguri Flood victims. Last week, Nigerians woke up to the sad news of flood in Maiduguri metropolis.
The flooding was caused by the collapse of a dam following heavy rainfall. Several hundred thousand people in Maiduguri, which is the Borno state capital, have been forced from their homes by the floodwaters and at least 30 have died.
Dalori cut short his official duties in Abuja and flew to the Borno State Capital to join other leaders like the Vice-President, Alhaji Kassim Shettima, Hon Minister, of Agriculture, Sen. Abubakar Kyari CON, Senators and House of representatives members from the three senatorial zones of Borno State alongside the Federal Government delegation who have gone to sympathise with the government and people of the State over the loss of their properties and lives.
While addressing the victims, Dalori said ” I am here to sympathise with the government and good people of Borno State over the sad and unfortunate incident that has rendered many of our people homeless, and also resulted in the death of others. We are overwhelmed by the extent of damage that the flood disaster has caused our people. As we mour those who are dead, we also wish to console those who lost their properties and source of livelihood in the flood. Yes, this is a natural disaster, which we did not anticipates, but we are shocked at the extent of damage and loss that we have suffered by this ugly occurrence.”.
Dalori described the situation as a really bad one, which require the quick intervention of the government and public-minded individuals and associations, thanking the Executive Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Professor Babagana Zulum for his quick and timely response to mitigate the impact of the flood.
He said ” Let me use this opportunity to thank our leader and Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum for his very rapid response and intervention to arrest and bring the situation under control. I would like to call on the federal government, public-spirited individuals and international organisations to rally round and come to the rescue of the affected communities. On my own part, I wish to donate a cash support of Fifty million Naira (N50,000,000.00) in support the victims of the disaster” he concluded.
Earlier , a powerful Federal Government delegation, led by the Vice-President, His Excellency, Kassim Shettima had a tour of Maiduguri metropolis and its environs to assess the extent of damage caused by the flood.
