Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Borno State, Hauwa Abubakar has  called for strengthened collaboration and advocacy to combat Gender-Based Violence, GBV, in  communities.

Speaking at a recent workshop organised by the Ministry of Justice in partnership with the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Maiduguri Branch, and Mega Digital Video Services Limited, she highlighted the critical importance of fostering a society where no child suffers in silence.

“This issue is paramount. GBV affects us all—girls, boys, families and the entire community,” she noted.

She described GBV as a silent epidemic that too often goes unnoticed and emphasised the urgent need for public education and community empowerment to effect real change.

“Together, we can build  vigilance, compassion and accountability culture. We must empower our communities to stand resolutely against GBV,” she proclaimed.

While acknowledging the existing legal framework, the commissioner reaffirmed the necessity of a steadfast commitment to strengthen these measures and ensure that justice is served.

According to her, this workshop marks just the beginning. We will continue to advocate, educate and take decisive action to safeguard our children and create a safer future for everyone.”
