Bomb Blast Kills 26 Travellers In Borno

At least 26 people were killed after a truck hit an improvised explosive device planted by suspected Boko Haram members at Rann town in Borno State. 

An eyewitness, who disclosed to AljazirahNigeria, noted that the blast killed men, women and many children in Borno State, near the border with Cameroon, on Monday. 

“26 people died in the blast, comprising  16 men, four women and six children,” a military officer speaking on condition of anonymity told newsmen, adding that three passengers were severely  injured.

A source from the community added that the vehicles were moving between the two towns of Rann and Gamboru Ngala when they were hit by an IED.

A leader in  Rann community, who did not want to mention his name in print, said  the 26 people were burnt beyond recognition.

Another source confirmed that the location was near Furunduma, 11 kilometers away from Rann.

All efforts to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, was unsuccessful at press time.

AljazirahNigeria learnt that Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge share border with Cameroon, which has witnessed a series of deadly attacks in the past.
