Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has expressed worry over the incessant attacks on Kwande and Ukum communities by suspected herdsmen, especially at a time when some places in the state are witnessing relative peace.

Governor Alia, who was reacting to a protest by Kwande women to register their grievances about the security situation in the local government, called for calm, assuring that his administration is doing everything possible to ensure that the people of Kwande and entire Benue communities enjoy peace.

The governor, in a statement at the weekend by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, described the renewed killings in Kwande and Ukum as remorseless barbarism, insisting that the activities of the assailants and their collaborators would soon become history.

Reemphasising his love for the people of Kwande, Ukum and the entire state, Governor Alia assured the people that government would not abandon them, promising to ensure that they are free from armed herders invasion.

The governor, who said he shared in the pains of those who lost loved ones, assured that government would step up security response. He pointed out that the remorseless barbarity of the assailants and their sponsors would soon become a thing of the past.

While sympathising with victims of recent attacks, the governor called on security agencies to give the state their best by ensuring that the enemies of Benue are caught and accordingly dealt with.

The governor also warned those using his name to stir controversy in Kwande and other areas to desist or be ready to face potential consequences.
