Benue Commission Of Inquiry Assures Of Fair Hearing

Date:

From Henry Ibya, Makurdi

Commission of Inquiry into the Sale and Lease of Government Assets set up by the Benue State government on June 19 has commenced sitting, with an assurance to be focused, firm and fair to all parties.

Chairman of the commission, Justice Apollos Ịdị, who gave the assurance during an inaugural session in Makurdi, said the commission is not out to witch-hunt anybody, but rather on a fact finding mission.

According to Justice Idi, the aim of the commission is to investigate the processes and procedures involved in these transactions to ensure transparency and accountability.

He assured that the committee would work within its terms of reference, pointing out that it would be an opportunity for stakeholders including serving and immediate past government officials, representatives from the private sector and members of the public to share their perspectives and insights on issues as they concern them.

In a remark, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Fidelis Mnyim, urged the commission to carryout its duties in line with the law, assuring that government would not interfere with their duties.

“Mr President has finally discovered the path to permanently resolve the power crisis in Nigeria. Opening up the industry will widen the operational field and deliver more megawatts to the national grid.

“As a state, we are taking full advantage of this opening made possible by the bold policies of Mr President and I can assure you that Kogi is ready to play as far as the issue of power is concerned.”

The governor said the Kogi State Scholarship Law is aimed at helping indigent students attain their dreams, adding that his administration would continue to prioritise education.

“We have continued to prioritise education because we are convinced that it is the bulwark of development. As a student, I knew what I went through to be educated. Being on this seat has offered me the opportunity to support our students to excel in their educational career.

“I also use this opportunity to congratulate Nigerians on the Students Loan Scheme of Mr President. We have a smart president who is determined to protect the poor and the weak. With him, it is obvious that our nation shall prosper,” he said.

Earlier, Speaker Aliyu Yusuf said the Assembly did a thorough job and even consulted experts to ensure that when passed, the laws can stand the test of time.

He said the Assembly is committed to ensuring purposeful legislation for the development of the state.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Assembly and other top government officials.
