Bauchi Youths Oppose APC Govs Over Southern Presidency

All Progressives Congress, APC, Youth Elements and North-East Youth Forum has opposed the 11 Northern APC governors for endorsing a southern presidential candidate, saying their decision does not reflect the opinion of the people.

The youths carrying placards with different inscriptions maintained that the APC should allow a candidate from the north emerge if the party must remain in power.

Speaking with journalists during the protest yesterday, the State Coordinator of North-East Youths Forum, Ibrahim Hashim Abdullahi, declared that northern youths would not support a presidential candidate from the southern part of the country.

“We are here to protest and reject the endorsement of 11 APC governors on power shift to the south in 2023.

“We are not in support of that decision and they did that for their personal benefit and interest.

“The APC governors who made the endorsement are all outgoing governors and most of them are looking for survival after leaving office, that is why they did that without proper consultation.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has started a lot of programmes and projects that will make the north better, we need someone who knows the north very well and will be able to complete them”, he said.

The group also appealed to the National Working Committee, NWC, of the APC not to consider the governors position as northern youths would never support or vote any southern candidate from the party.

Similarly, another pressure group known as Northern Consensus Movement, NCM, yesterday, rejected the resolve of some governors from the north, under the APC, to zone the 2023 presidency to the south.

The group in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday through its President-General, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu criticized the resolution of the governors, describing it as treachery.

The statement reads in part: “the attention of the Amalgamation of 208 communities based, socio-cultural and economically inclined northern association has been drawn to the unilateral, selfish, rash and hasty decision taken by some northern governors purportedly ceding the presidency to the southern part of this country in order to further their narrow minded political ambitions.

“Consequently, we, an Amalgamation of Northern Associations, wish to categorically distance ourselves from the pronouncement made by the governors for the following reasons: On whose authority did they act?  Who did the said governors consult before arriving at this decision?

“Our movement is aware that such decision was borne out of their selfish interest to be considered as running mates or get assurances of security from prosecution from the incoming government in view of the massive corruption and mismanagement they have perpetrated against their states.

“Did they take into consideration the carnage perpetrated on northerners who are being killed across the southern part of the country? Did they put into consideration the blood of those innocent northerners?

“Did they put into consideration the economic and educational backwardness of the north before arriving at their selfish position? In view of the above, we wish to state categorically that these self-serving, power seeking individuals who, as governors, have not advanced the interest of their respective states, only speak for themselves and family and not the entire north.

“As a group, our resolve is to ensure that northern electorate will only vote for a candidate who will protect the region’s interest irrespective of his or her party affiliation come 2023.

“Finally, NCM has already put in place a mechanism and strategy to reach out to all northerners through advocacy and voter education on why they must vote for a northern candidate who will protect their lives and property in all parts of Nigeria”.
