Mr Olusegun Onilude, the Chairman, Badagry Local Government ,BGL, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to food security with the provision of incentives and other kinds of support to farmers.
Onilude gave the assurance during the inauguration of the newly elected executive of the Badagry Local Government Farmers Association on Tuesday.
According to him, this will boost local production and steady supply of food, livestock and vegetables.
“As you are aware, my administration has always provided support and incentives to members of this association and we will not renege on that.
“Our nation and the world at large is facing serious food crisis due to diverse factors.
“There can be no better time for us all to promote and invest in agriculture than now to attain sustainability in food production.
“I charge us to encourage people to go into farming, as I assure you once again that my administration will continue to provide incentives and enabling environment for farmers to thrive”, he said.
On the election of new executive officers of the association, the chairman congratulated them.
“Every position of leadership one occupies is an opportunity to prove your mettle.
“I also want to seize this medium to appreciate you all in the agricultural sector for standing firm regardless of the daunting challenges that the sector currently faces”, he said.
Also speaking, Mr Philip Asokere, the Council Manager, said the administration would remain committed to the development of agriculture.
According to him, farming is one of the critical sectors that fast-tracks sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
