As Buhari Reassures Nigerians Of Credible Election
Ahead of the February 25 and March11 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari has once again raised the hope of Nigerian electorates on conducting a transparent election, as he reassured Nigerians that his administration was totally committed to deliver a free, fair and credible elections despite the challenges being faced.
There have been doubts in certain quarters by some political stakeholders over the conduct of a transparent 2023 elections. Equally, there are palpable fears whether the elections will hold or not as scheduled by the nation’s electoral umpire in line with the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, in the wake of lingering fuel scarcity, unabated insecurity, particularly brazen attacks on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, facilities across the country . The fears are becoming palpable among the citizenry, though unflinching determination to perform their civic duties come February 25 and March 11 as slated by the electoral umpire.
Buhari had for the umpteenth time given the assurance that the elections must hold as scheduled and it must be seen to be free and fair. In his visit to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, in Kano on Monday, where he assured Nigerians that his administration is working hard to return the country to normalcy .
He emphasised that a level playing ground would be provided for the conduct of credible elections in the country.
Buhari noted that his administration is committed to sustaining and consolidating on the giant strides achieved under his leadership over the years.
The President said that no democratic system could be feasible without making efforts in touching every facet of human endeavour. We have seen the efforts of our gallant soldiers in the fight against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping but need the support of the civilians in providing information.
AljazirahNigeria appeals to Mr President to live above board and make his assurance of free and fair elections to count, by ensuring neutrality of all the institutions involved in the conduct of the 2023 elections. Again, we hold President Buhari accountable to his words and assurances believing that the “Federal Might” maxim be whittle down and allow the votes of Nigerians to counts. Although, he has said in several occasions encouraging Nigerians to vote whoever that can help move the country forward.
It is our opinion that politicians campaigning for elective offices should understand the challenges faced by the electorates.
While we stressed the need for a transparent and peaceful conduct of the election, we implore candidates not to adopt crude tactics in winning elections; otherwise it would be inimical to the peace and stability of the country. Let Mr President act the talk.
