A group known as the Benue Youth Forum, has discribed as a misplaced priority and highly condemnable the aggression with which the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was trailed, arrested and extradited back to the country by the Federal Government.

President of the group Mr. Terrence Kuanum, who made the condemnation  in a statement made available to newsmen Friday, in Makurdi, said people of the Middle Belt viewed the arrest with great suspicion especially where the same intelligence that has failed on several occasions to give them justice and protection in the hands of herders attacks and killings.

The group wondered how the IPOB leader was tracked in a foreign country on account of killing 55 people but ignore the leadership of Miyetti Allah groups and the Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM), who have caused greater pains by killing thousands of innocent Nigerians, but are still going about freely in  the country.

According to the president Benue Youth Forum, “we find it appalling that in a country where there seems to be no justice as Nigerian security network has always malfunctioned particularly as it borders on the inflammatory and treasonable utterances of the leadership of Miyetti Allah groups, who has at different times claimed responsibility for killing of hundreds of innocent Nigerians including attack on the Benue Governor Samuel Ortom, this year with FUNAM claiming responsibility and boosting openly that until they hit their target without the police making any arrest”.

They expressed displeasure why the Federal Government through its security agencies will choose to go after those only agitating for Independence only to allow those causing mass death’s and destruction to the very foundation of the nation.

Mr. Kuanum, further argued that in a democracy such as what is practiced in Nigeria, agitators like Nnamdi Kanu, calling for a restructuring in the face of gross marginalization and wanton killings of innocent people like animals such as the present situation needs to be appreciated by the Federal Government rather than rough handling.

According to the president of the Benue Youth Forum, IPOB and other separatists groups were only responding to the failure of the Nigerian state to give its citizens equal opportunities and freedom pointing out that” such freedom fighters were therefore, not worse than sworn terrorists like Miyetti Allah groups and FUNAM who do not want only the collapse of Nigeria, but also want to appropriate same to themselves as their ethnic possession”.

The group which noted further that while President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent six years anniversary media interaction had aggravated issues in the country when he disappointed Nigerians by failing to address the concerns of the people when he had said those killing Nigerians were foreigners, only to insist that cattle routes and grazing reserves be reopened across the country, ” for us in the Middle Belt, listening to the president vow to revisit the cattle routes of the 60s alone has alerted us that the agenda to wipe out the people of this region and handover the land to the Jihadist have never been more real than now.

“We now know why Mr. President wept when he lost the previous elections”.

The group which reaffirmed it’s commitment to the unity of the nation, insisted on equity, fair play and justice for the sustenance of the unity, while commending leaders of great conscience like Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, and Nyesom Wike of Rivers whose firm stand on justice has preserved Nigeria’s image as a country with men of integrity.

They equally called on Nigerians and the people of Middle Belt region to rise up to protect their God-given heritage.

The group also called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s led Federal Government to in the same vigor it tracked down the leader of IPOB, to also order the arrest and prosecution of the leadership of Miyetti Allah groups and FUNAM, as the only way to douse tension and absolve his Government of selective justice.
