Arewa Think Tank Lauds Sani For  Ending Blackout

Date:

Arewa Think Tank has commended Governor Uba Sani for ending the five-day black out sequel to the industrial action embarked upon by staff of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KAEDCO.

The group also posited that Sani had exercised leadership by intervening in the industrial dispute between the management of Kaduna Electric and  labour unions.

The expressed delight that the governor’s timely intervention had led to the restoration of power supply in Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto and Kaduna States.

The Think Tank gave the commendation in a statement signed by its Chief Convener, Muhammad Alhaji-Yakubu.

He said,  ‘’The governor’s intervention into a purely private entity made the unions to sheath their swords and electricity was restored in the four  franchise states.

‘’Governor Sani used tact to achieve a consensus between the management and labour.

“He resolved the impasse with the negotiating skills of an activist and the acumen of a business man.

“As a product of civil society, he  was pro-workers and at the same time, gave  Kaduna Electric  a soft  landing.”

According to the think tank, the five days of power outage affected micro, small and medium enterprises, livelihoods of the vulnerable and the underserved in the society.

‘’So, the governor’s action has brought relief to the people of Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi,’’ Alhaji-Yakubu added.

He advised the management and labour unions to always settle their internal differences without making   their customers pay for their disagreements.

It would be recalled that the labour unions  had embarked on industrial action a week ago.

This followed the decision of  the management to sack 444 workers, thereby causing power outage in  the four franchise states.

Sani had on Friday  met with the feuding camps and afterwards it was resolved that  the management should review its actions and the unions should restore electricity, while negotiations continue.

The governor promised to be the ‘Guarantor’ as he would ensure fairness to both sides. (NAN)
