The Young Progressives Party (YPP), has called for the suspension of Local Government elections in Nnewi, following alleged incomplete materials and fake Voter Cards that characterised the election.
This was contained in a statement issued by Chairman Nnewi North LGA under the YPP, Chief Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, on Saturday, made available to AljazirahNigeria.
The statement read: “The Young Progressives Party (YPP) expresses serious concern over the incomplete election materials provided by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) for the Nnewi North Local Government Area Council Elections. This severe deficiency threatens the integrity of the electoral process and casts doubt on ANSIEC’s ability to conduct free, fair, and credible elections.
“Alarming reports from all 10 wards in Nnewi North confirm that key election materials, including ballot papers and result sheets, remain incomplete. More disturbingly, we have received credible information about the circulation of fake voter cards, further endangering the credibility of the elections.
“In light of these issues, we are directing all YPP agents, given the scope of these challenges—ranging from incomplete materials to the presence of fake voter cards—the YPP calls for an immediate suspension of the elections across Nnewi North LGA until these critical issues are fully addressed.
“We urge ANSIEC to act swiftly in rectifying these shortcomings and fix a new date and ensure that the election is conducted under conditions that are transparent, credible, and acceptable to the people of Nnewi North. Until these matters are resolved, we believe voting should not hold anywhere in Nnewi North LGA.
“The YPP remains steadfast in its commitment to a fair electoral process and will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
