World record holder in the Women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has once again showcased her dominance by winning her fourth Nigerian title at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s National Trials. The event took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin-City, Edo State, where Amusan powered through to the finish line with an impressive time of 12.78s, ahead of Adaobi Tabugbo, who finished second in 13.33s.

This trial is a critical event for the AFN as it serves to select athletes for upcoming major competitions, including the Paris Olympics, the Africa Championships in Cameroon, and the World U-20 Championship in Lima, Peru.

Despite having already qualified for the Olympics, the 27-year-old Amusan executed a smooth race to defend her title. Her season has been remarkable, featuring a world-leading time at the Jamaican Invitational in May and setting the African 60m hurdles (indoor) record twice earlier this year.

As Amusan prepares for her third Olympic appearance in Paris next year, she aims to secure a spot on the podium. Her illustrious career includes being a three-time consecutive Diamond League winner, two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, two-time African champion, and three-time African Games gold medalist. She previously competed in the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
