As part of his efforts to make life more bearable for the entire people of the state, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has been commended for approving free eye tests for all pupils of primary schools and students of Secondary Schools in the state.
The Executive Secretary, Osun Health Insurance Agency ,OSHIA, Dr Rasaq Akindele gave this commendation while fielding questions from journalists at the “Imole School Eye Health” programme at Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo.
Dr Akindele said it is imperative to commend the governor for his approval for free eye tests for the children of both primary and secondary schools in the state saying the aim is to help improve the learning ability of students and pupils while, “It is a unique programme which had never happened in the history of the state since inception”.
Dr Akindele who enjoined other state governors to emulate Adeleke commended him for his initiative by providing succour to students and pupils in schools to enhance their comprehension of what they read and write.
He spoke about the significance of good eye sight whose importance could not be quantified, thanking Governor Adeleke for his benevolence and compassion.
The OSHIA Executive Secretary who disclosed that no fewer that 40,000 pupils and students of both primary and secondary schools are to benefit from the exercise across the state said the goal is not only to test, but also provide medications as well as eye glasses for students who needs it as it will help to improve students learning ability.
Dr Akindele reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Adeleke, to the provision of conducive learning environment as well as the necessary infrastructure, equipment and materials to school towards attaining quality education.
Dr Akindele who emphasised the unalloyed support of Governor Adeleke to OSHIA in terms of logistics advised those provided with the eye glasses to ensure their proper care, urging teachers not to confiscate them from students but to help them on their protection against damage.
Adeniji Florence and Shuaib Nafisat who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries at Akinorun Grammar School, Ikinrun in Ifelodun local government area of the state, appreciated Governor Adeleke’s initiative on the eye health.
The students who are highly elated prayed for the success of the incumbent administration of Governor Adeleke.
