Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has tasked parents, teachers and other stakeholders to come together to tackle bullying among children.

Aiyedatiwa made the call at a programme to celebrate the 2025 National Children’s Day yesterday in Akure.

Speaking on the theme of the celebration, ‘Stand Up, Speak Up, Building a Bullying free Generation,’ which was organised by the office of the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the governor, Aiyedatiwa urged stakeholders to stand up against humiliating children, stating that bullying could stifle the dreams and aspirations of any child.

“All stakeholders must strive to protect every child and give them wings to fly toward their dreams. Also, children must support one another and not be silent in the face of bullying,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa, who commended the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Dr Seun Osemaye, for the interventions in the welfare of children, promised that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes to impact them.

Similarly, the wife of the governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa urged parents to relate cordially with their children as friends.

“Bullying must be wholly discouraged even in homes, schools and other public places,” the governor’s wife noted.

In her remarks, the special adviser on women affairs said the celebration was that of love and unity among children and improvement of their welfare.

She explained that the theme of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration is apt and timely in tackling the critical issue of bullying in the society.

Osemaye added that stakeholders must take action against bullying among children and young adults, stating that the celebration was to empower children to speak up through advocacy and confidence building.
