Operatives of  Akwa Ibom State  Police Command have arrested a notorious cult leader, Ubong Friday Benson, who was on the verge of killing his targeted victim (name withheld), but for the swift intervention of the police anti-cult team.

The  Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this at the command headquarters in Ikot Akpanabia, near Uyo, explained that the arrest of the suspect followed quick response to a distress call that the chief cultist was about murdering his victim with a dagger at Ikot Imoh village.

“Police operatives responded to a distress call from a man (name withheld) in Ikot Imoh Village who reported that his 24-year-old son was facing death from a notorious cultist who was threatening to kill him with a dagger.

“The complainant  stated that the suspect had previously threatened to shoot him with a locally made pistol, which he habitually concealed in a nearby bush.

“Upon receiving the report, a team was immediately mobilised to the scene, leading to the successful arrest of the suspect.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to possessing the firearm and subsequently led the police team to a bush where the alleged locally made pistol was recovered.

“Further search of the suspect’s possession led to the recovery of the following dangerous weapons: one dagger, one iron filer, one long iron chisel, one iron hammer and penknife.

“Preliminary reports indicated that the suspect had allegedly inflicted injuries on some community members prior to his arrest,” the police spokesman said, adding that so far, only the suspect’s father had come forward to provide a statement.
