Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has discontinued the criminal case against the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe.
His Special Assistant on Communication and Publicity, Kamarudeen Ogundele, in a statement, said the decision followed a careful review of the case, which found no connection between Onyeali-Ikpe and the alleged fraudulent scheme.
“The AGF has the constitutional power to enter a nolle prosequi, discontinuing a prosecution where it is deemed necessary to prevent a miscarriage of justice,” the noted.
The AGF stated that Onyeali-Ikpe was neither the account officer nor the managing director of Fidelity Bank when the account used in the alleged scheme was opened.
“This decision is guided by the principles of justice, fairness and the rule of law,” Ogundele added.
The AGF emphasized that the decision does not exculpate Fidelity Bank from the allegations, which are still pending before the court.
According to the statement, “The AGF will ensure that the best interest of justice is served at all times and that all those found wanting face the full weight of the law.”
