From HASSAN JIRGI Maiduguri
At least three people were confirmed dead after a car carrying passengers rammed into a landmine explosion along Maiduguri-Damboa highway in Borno State on Saturday, sources confirmed.
It was gathered that the explosion also injured unspecified number of people who were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Our correspondent learnt that perishable goods being transported into Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, were destroyed in the explosion from landmines planted by militants using Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, against civilians and security forces.
This recent accident followed a less then one week attack on a commercial bus on same road, which killed 26 passengers and injuried others.
A security source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said military clearance operations are needed before the rainy season complicates the detection of IEDs.
“A deadly explosion occurred on Maiduguri-Damboa highway earlier today, resulting in the confirmed death of three people, with several others in critical situation.
“We pray for the souls of the departed and for the quick recovery of the injured,” the security source said.
