Adamawa LG Polls: Choose Female Running Mates, Fintiri Orders Flag Bearers

Date:

Barely a month to the Adamawa Local Government Elections, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed the People’s Democratic Party and its Candidates for the Local Government Elections in the State to ensure gender equality by picking female running mates in the forthcoming electoral contest.

The governor who gave the directive during a stake holders meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Dougirei Government House recently said the Party will continue to give equal opportunities available in the political space to women to create a favourable political climate for women’s participation in politics.

Fintiri who already had a female deputy, Professor Farauta Kaleptapwa at the state level may be canvassing for a similar leadership structure at the local governments to reflect the state structure.

The number One citizen of the state and the leader of the party said that the party will continue to recognize the contributions of women in national development and warned stakeholders against any act of sabotage or anti-party activities during the conduct of the local government polls, emphasizing that such action may jeopardize the anticipated victory of the party at the Polls.

“I want everyone of us not to repeat what happened during the last governorship election. Handle it with all sense of commitment and without any lackadaisical attitude,” he said.

Fintiri charged the candidates to cultivate the spirit of sportsmanship and to accept the outcome of the coming up polls in good fate in the event that it is unfavourable, promising a level playing ground for all the parties.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu said the meeting was called to discuss matters regarding preparations of the party ahead of the local government elections.

He said the party intends to go round the state and campaign for the election, calling on the contestants to embrace whoever emerges as PDP flag bearers for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

Barrister Shehu urged contestants to see leadership as an act of providence since God gives it to whosoever He wants and charged all stakeholders to ensure that the process is conducted peacefully and successfully without rancour.
The Local Government Polls has been fixed for July 13, 2024.
