Wife of the Ogun State governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun has stated that the newly built modern shopping complex at Lafenwa market would boost economic growth.

Mrs Abiodun said the complex equipped with state-of-art facilities would rapidly transform the market into an economic hub and attract traders within and outside the council for business transactions.

The governor’s wife, who disclosed this at the weekend while commissioning the shopping complex, which was constructed by the  Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo-led Abeokuta North Local Government administration, thanked the  chairman for naming the complex after her.

She said the shopping complex was in line with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s agenda to work with local government authorities to deliver modernised markets with the view of fostering economic growth and development.

The first lady said the complex with its electricity and modern storage facilities have the capacity to preserve perishable goods for traders in order to achieve excessive food supply and enhance food security for  citizens of the council and the entire state.

“Today, we are gathered for the opening of a modern commercial hub that will transform economic activities in this local government and beyond.

“Market has always been the heartbeat of commerce in any society and a modern market like this one represents the future. They create a more conducive environment for trade, enhance economic development and improve the overall business experience for traders and buyers alike.

“Lafenwa market, being a major market in Abeokuta North, has long been a beacon of trade and economic activities, with this new development we are not only boosting local commerce, but also positioning Abeokuta North as a key player in regional trade. This market will attract people from different part of the state to facilitate economic exchanges and contribute significantly to the growth of Ogun State’s economy,” she said.

Earlier, the chairman of the council said the commissioning of the complex would have a positive impact on the economic and social landscape of the area, as well as enhance trade and create job opportunities.

“As we commission this significant project, we are reminded of the power of community collaboration and the positive impact it can have on our economic and social landscape. We look forward to the opportunities this new facility will bring, enhancing trade, creating jobs and fostering community spirit,” he stressed.
