Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has urged youths to always think of fruitful endeavours instead of exploiting modern technology to perpetrate social vices.
The speaker gave the advice yesterday during an interactive session with selected youth organisations that participated in the 2024 Legislative Mentorship Initiative training at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Abbas maintained that it is only by paying attention to details that youths could achieve success and become good leaders in the future.
The speaker informed that the success of the 10th House of Representatives under his leadership is hinged on the principles of trust and accountability among others.
He expressed disappointment that despite the huge deposit of information online, some youths had failed to utilise such potentials for their own benefit.
He said as speaker of the 10th House with the highest number of political parties, he has been able to manage with high sense of cohesion, respect and accommodation, the divergent views of all members without friction.
Abbaa said the ability to maintain trust and transparency is what is holding the House together. “Members of the House believe in transparency and accountability, noting that he has deep respect for various opinions, even as they respect him for accommodating them.”
He also said his leadership is committed to ensuring equitable representation for women in the political space either through elections or appointment.
The speaker disclosed that the Legislative Mentorship Initiative was initiated by the immediate past Speaker and current Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
He added that part of the way his leadership is planing to improve on the initiative is to introduce an internship programme for graduates of LMI and the House leadership is also planning to engage youths twice a year.
