Chief Executive Officer of Hope-Jon International School, Mrs Hope Nwaoga has emphasised the importance of inculcating cultural and traditional values in the younger ones to address moral decadence.

Mrs Nwaoga said this at the Cultural Day celebration of the school at the weekend.
According to her, Cultural Day is regarded as one of the biggest events in the life of the school, after its graduation ceremony in June every year.

She said the day was set aside to showcase the culture of geo-political zones in Nigeria.

“We have sustained it since the inception of the school 12 years ago, though not done every year. For example we did not host it during COVID-19 period.

“It is an occasion we are always looking forward to celebrate every year. We exhibit different cultures of the six geopolitics zones in Nigeria. You will see that there is so much to eat and drink in Nigeria.

“Not only good soup or drinks were displayed, different dances, dressing and greetings were not left out.

“This is a ceremony that the school loves to host because it enables our children to know different cultures and foods, so that they can always adjust to any situation they find themselves.”

Nwaoga hinted that her school’s vision in the next five years is to make international impact through the display of culture and academic success.

Speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Major-General John Nwaoga (rtd) expressed delight over the colourful display and appearance of the students and pupils, just as he praised the authorities, parents and teachers for their contributions in making the event a success.

“I say kudos to our parents, the principal, vice, teachers, students, the management and others that made today a success.

“Today is a day set aside by the school to celebrate various zones and their culture which include their different ways of dressing, dancing, varieties of their food.

“Some of us have gone through these zones in the discharge of our duties and tasted lots of food. Today is another opportunity for us to enjoy what they have for us. I therefore advise all to exchange and taste each others food,” he said.

Principal of the school, Mrs Ozioma Onuoha thanked God for the way the children cooperated in making the day a success, adding that it would afford them the opportunity to understand the difference between their culture and others.

On his part, the Chairman of Parent Teachers Association, PTA, Mr Gbenga Fawemimo said he was happy to see children in different attires, which he said would enable them know where they belong and what is obtainable in other climes.
