7 Die, 11 Injured As Bus Runs Into Truck On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Seven persons have died in an auto crash that occurred on Monday night when a bus rammed into a moving truck around Ogere area on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor of Ogun State.

11 persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries from the accident

Involved in the crash was a Mazda bus with registration number: MNY894 YN and a truck with no a truck with no registration number.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Ogun State, Florence Okpe confirmed this to newmen in a statement in Abeokuta, on Tuesday.

Okpe said that the cause of the accident was as a result of excessive speed on the part of the madza bus driver who rammed on a moving truck from the rear.

She said that 18 persons(15 male adult and three female adult) were involved in the auto crash, 11 persons (nine male adult and two female adult sustained injured, while the remaining seven persons (five male and two female) died on the spot.

The Chief route commander said that the injured victims had been taken to PATMAG Hospital, Ogere for medical attention, while the corpses had been deposited at FOS morgue, Ipara.

The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun, Anthony Uga, sympathized with the family of the victims and called on passengers to always caution drivers who drives recklessly or disobey traffic rules.

Uga, therefore, ask the public or passengers to call 122 toll free number to report any reckless driving.

He also advised motorists to shun speed and use common sense speed limit especially at night and during the rain due to poor visibility.
