5 Arrested, As Hunter Mistakenly Shoot Self In Ogun

One Taiwo Bolugbe  mistakenly shot himself when he and five other hunters went on a hunting expedition at Ajinawo in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Bolugbe’s dane gun  slipped from his shoulder while trying to retrieve a hunted animal, before it accidentally discharged and shot him at the lower jaw.

This was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in a statement in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Odutola said the police received a report at about 4:30pm on March 23 that a hunting trip had turned fatal when the victim was accidentally shot.

She said efforts by the  five hunters to save his life proved abortive, as he succumbed to his injury.

The police spokesperson said the five hunters that went on the hunting expedition with the deceased had all been arrested, while  investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of a hunter during a group hunting expedition at Ajinawo area, Yewa North Local Government.

“At about 16:30hrs on March 23, the police received a report that a hunting trip had turned fatal when a hunter was accidentally shot. Five hunters were arrested in connection with the incident”, Odutola said 

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation. 

The command urged the public to exercise caution while handling firearms even during hunting activities to prevent tragic incidents.
